One of our recent post-singletons has gotten in touch to share his dating experiences. Barry from Bradford wrote in to us – yes, wrote in, on actual lined paper! – to gush about his latest match. “I now feel it is the right time to move on with my new partner, who is the love of my life”, he says, before thanking us for our help in getting him to this effervescent discovery.

Well, Barry, we couldn’t be happier for you, and your letter inspired us to reach out to the FreeAndSingle crowd at large for any more delicious dating escapades. We know that a lot of you have written to us in the past about what’s made your dates so special, but we want to kick-start our dating success stories again. Whether they go into a fair amount of detail (as one of our favourite reports from Clare and Frank did) or merely dip a toe into your escapades, there’s no amount of feedback that we don’t encourage and appreciate.

Just send us a message, along with a photo of the two of you if possible, and we’ll upload your tale of seduction for all to see. Be as descriptive as you like; the Romantics were poets for a reason! If you can find an apt metaphor for hitting the reload button on your inbox, that’s even better; we want to learn about the anticipation you went through before finally meeting up, and how things progressed.

A gift to yourselves

In the past, newspapers would print all sorts of love-ridden mush from the public, most (if not all) of it pertaining to marriage proposals and engagements. Now that the 21^st century is carving its own path for how people find solace together, you can think of our request as a throwback to the old days, when declaring love to a large audience was a rarity.

Everyone at FreeAndSingle Towers was delighted this morning to receive another success story. This time from Clare & Frank, who met on Christian Free And Single. Here’s their story, in Clare’s words…

“I went on a first date with Frank because he invited me to a restaurant and he was paying for it.  I wasn’t sure about anything else.  We got on really well and he invited me for a second date.  He had a week off work and so did I, so he said he’d take me to the seaside.

“When we got to Skegness, we had fish n’ chips then went to the beach.  At the beach we took off our shoes and socks, and rolled up our trousers.  He offered to take my hand so we went hand in hand up the beach a long way in the water.  Then we came back and remained hand in hand for the rest of an all day date.

“Since that day we’ve been canoeing on the River Severn at Iron Bridge, rowing on the River Avon at Stratford and we’re planning on punting on the River Camb at Cambridge soon.  Secretly I want to go yachting but I haven’t told him this yet.

“We’re really enjoying each others company.  It’s all been wonderful!”

She had been single for eight months and had finally felt ‘over’ her ex when a friend suggested online dating. She laughed it off but then, curious, she set up an account.

Within days she had been ‘winked’ at, messaged and all-round showered with attention. Nervously, Jenny browsed the profiles of the guys who had shown interest. One guy stood out for her.

Jon had a friendly smile in his profile picture, he looked right out of the screen as if they were face-to-face. He had described himself as ‘shy, quiet and bookish’ but also had a friend describe him as ‘a darts-playing champion who could make anybody laugh with his quick humour. Makes a mean grilled cheese.’ Andrea was intrigued and attracted. With some trepidation, she messaged him back.

Soon, Jenny and Jon were racing home from work each day to check their messages. They quickly moved from chatting online to their first nervous phonecall and after that, well, they were unstoppable. Soon, they were ready to meet in person.

Jenny picked out her outfit with care, had a friend stop by to give her a pep talk and an outfit critique and then left for a coffee shop that she and Jon had determined to be exactly between their towns. She was shaking as she ordered a latte and sat down at a table with a good view of the door.

Jon walked in and Jenny recognised him immediately. He came straight over and they bumped noses accidentally as they tried to do the whole continental greeting thing. Instead of feeling mortified though, Jenny felt an instant calm and chuckled along with Jon’s witty observance – she forgets what he said exactly, but she knew straight away that she liked this guy as much in reality as she did online.

Now, two years into the relationship, Jenny couldn’t be happier. She and Jon are moving in together, finally, after a few hiccups with deciding which town to move to for ease of commute. They’re planning a holiday for the summer and still visiting the coffee shop where they first bumped noses. If she could change one thing?

‘I’d have signed up sooner! Jon was online for a month before I was – imagine if someone else had snapped him up before I got there!’

Andrea’s Story

Andrea had been single (again) for about 6 months. Her confidence knocked by another unsuccessful relationship and her anti-social working hours meant she didn’t manage to get out and about as often as she would have liked. Andrea decided to give internet dating a try and found Mature Free and Single.

She chatted to a few gentlemen and that was pleasant, but there was no spark with any of them.

Mick’s Story

I had only been a site member for about 2 weeks when i first “winked” at Belinda. (She had been on the site for about a month). She “winked” back at me and after exchanging a few messages, we got in touch by phone. Something sparked between us and for the first week, we were having three hour conversations every night on the phone (thank God for ringback after 59 minutes).

We arranged our first date a week after we had first exchanged messages, a lunch-time date on the 24th July. This was followed by another meet for lunch the next day and i think that we both knew on this second date that there was definately a strong attraction for each other. We continued our meets and visited each others houses and in October we went on our first holiday together, two weeks in Lindos, where we had a fantastic time.

This was followed by a two week Caribbean cruise in December. It was during this cruise, when docked in Martinique, on Belinda’s birthday, that i proposed to her and she made me the happiest man by saying “yes”.The photograph was taken on Belinda’s birthday on board ship.

Since then, we have had a week together in a beautiful log cabin in a forest near York and another two weeks in Lindos in May.

Life together for us is so very special, we have so much in common and haven’t been apart since last August.

‘I first winked at Martin on 25th June 2011 and we had our first date two weeks later on Friday 8th July. Martin said he didn’t usually reply to winks but when he saw my profile and photo he couldn’t resist (aww!).

From then on, we spent every weekend together and gradually realised we’d hit the jackpot and fell in love. We started talking about getting engaged in August but thought it was too soon and were worried about what other people might think, so we decided to wait until June 2012 which would have been Martin’s Mum’s birthday – sadly she passed away a few years earlier.

By September we were both positive we had something amazing and changed our plans – we bought the ring but waited until Christmas day to get engaged – it was so special and Martin almost cried. We now have the Wedding booked for 21st March 2014 at Cooling Castle Barn in Kent and i just can’t wait!

If someone had told us this time last year that we would find our perfect partner online and be engaged and planning a dream wedding by this time, I think we would have both been a little scepticle – but it has happened and we are both over the moon.

We can’t thank you and your team enough – we now have an amazing life together to look forward to. It’s a dream that absolutely came true!

So when we heard about this romance from MatureFreeAndSingle we just had to share Howard and Wendy’s story:

‘Both Wendy and I had joined the dating site last year to hopefully meet someone to share another relationship with.
Wendy and I both were both divorced last year and felt it was the right time to move on.
We both found each other through the adverts on the site and at first I saw Wendy and thought what a wonderful profile she had and a “cheeky smile and looks to match”.

I made contact and asked if Wendy would like to chat, in which Wendy replied yes. After a few brief exchanges through the chat side of the site, both Wendy and I agreed to swap numbers and started chatting on the phone. We both lived locally and made arrangements to meet for afternoon coffee and lunch.
The first date went really well and we both got on really well with each other, I already had a good feeling about Wendy, which I think people on the site call “chemistry”!
We met again and things were really good, it was near Valentine’s Day and both Wendy and I exchanged cards with some really romantic verses.
We have now been together for 2 months and have had lovely days out, walking on the beach in the snow at Filey to having our very first romantic weekend away.
We are now an item and are looking forward to our future together with holidays planned and more romantic times to come.

Nervously, she created a profile and started browsing through other peoples. Then came the time to reply to the first message. Flattered and pleased by the message (from an attractive man who liked dinosaurs, curry and action movies) she replied and they started talking.

After a week of excitedly checking her Free and Single mailbox, they decided to try a phone conversation. They didn’t stop talking until 1am and they both had work the next day!

This success and the chemistry they felt led them to arrange an actual date. With butterflies in their stomachs, new outfits and friends filling their ears with tips and advice they both set off to Leeds Castle in Kent for a trip around the grounds and high tea in the café.

Over scones, tea and jam they felt a connection, something worth pursuing. More dates were arranged, and three years later they remain happily together.
