Common First Date Myths, Busted

First Date Myths

Dating can be a complicated business, but it really doesn’t need to be. In fact, all those rules on how to act on a first date, how long you should wait to call, and when you should progress to the next stage can prevent a relationship from blossoming naturally in those early stages. Especially on the nerve-wracking first date. To help you prepare for that initial encounter with someone you meet through online dating, here are a few common first date myths, busted once and for all.

Stick to the Script

Much of the awkwardness of a first date stems from people sticking to a stuffy script rather than letting the conversation flow of its own accord. Of course you’ll want to know the basics at some point, but if the topic is going off on a tangent then just let it. Otherwise, you’ll be fumbling through the boring questions until you both run out of things to say and glance at your watch to go home.

Play It Cool

Nobody wants to appear too keen on a first date, but in a bid to ‘play it cool’ make sure that you aren’t giving the wrong impression. Whilst you don’t want to lay all of your cards on the table, use body language to show that you are interested in what they have to say, ask questions, and give them a smile. By doing so, you’ll give them encouragement and keep the date running smoothly.

The Guy Should Always Pay

A few years ago, it would have been a travesty if the guy didn’t pay on the first date, however opinion is much more mixed these days. Ladies, don’t just assume that the guy is going to fork out for your three course meal – at least offer to pay even if you’re hoping he will. Guys, it’s still regarded as the chivalrous thing to do but don’t feel obliged, and equally don’t over-insist if she refuses!

Three-Date Rule

Whilst we’re not encouraging you to jump straight into bed with sexy local singles (much as you want to), don’t let the three date rule get in the way of chemistry if you instantly hit if off. Sexual tension is a really positive sign for a relationship, and often your first sexual encounter with someone can be the deal-breaker anyway. If you do wait three dates and then find you don’t match in the bedroom, you’ll have wasted your time. So if things are naturally progressing to a steamy end on that first date, don’t feel you absolutely have to hold back.

Dating is shrouded with myths and rules that today are out of touch with the way modern relationships works. If you’re unsure of what to do on a first date, use your instinct and weigh up the situation, and only do what you feel comfortable with. After all, if you don’t act yourself then they’re hardly going to fall for the real you.

Women of today are very selfish. Very rare a Woman offers to go Half. They expect the Man to do all the Costs. A very big Turn Off. I’m very Generous but at least if they offer it Lets you know they are Not Greedy.
